Mommy and Me Video

Just a little video of mommy and I hanging out before bed time the other night :)

Play Date

Today I had a play date with some of my old NICU buddies Marcus and Rebecca. It was nice having a girl around actually, it seems like its always boys boys boys these days hehe... We had some yummy banana bread and coffee (well the mommies did, we babies enjoyed some of our mommy's milk) and share war stories from the NICU. Who would have thought we'd all finally make it out of that place?? We were each born at 24 and 26 weeks and all under 600 grams... TEENY! We also had mostly all the same surgeries and issues while we were there so we have a lot in common. Thankfully those days are OVER and we can share happy growing, playing, accomplishment stories now!! It was really nice hanging out with my buddies outside of the hospital, I can't wait to do that more.

I've been quite the grump today, not sure why. I don't have a fever or anything that seems to be wrong... I'm just GRUMPY and moody and took some pretty serious naps throughout the day. I was not a nice boy for my OT this morning and luckily PT was canceled because I wasn't gonna make it through another 1/2 hour of anyone touching me. I did get a nice warm bath this evening, which always puts me in a better mood, and am currently snuggled up on mommy's chest sleep talking and dreaming good dreams! Tomorrow daddy and I are spending the day together so mommy can go teach her class and meet with some insurance people for me again. Mommy says she's going to miss me like CRAZY tomorrow but I know it's going to be fun with daddy and I'm sure I'll get lots of hugs and kisses from mommy when she finally comes home! :)

Oh happy day

Today turned out to be a good although tiring day. Daddy and mommy took me to see the Neuro Surgeon today and he was super super nice, maybe my favorite doctor yet. He told us that my head ultrasound looks good, about the same as it looked back in the NICU and my head is growing at a perfect steady pace. He said the right side of my head does have a little bleed but even though it was classified as a Grade 3, my ventricles look good so it's not something he's concerned about! Hallelujah. He seemed very happy with my progress and said that because I'm so little and still growing my brain should be able to figure things out just fine!! Fingers crossed and lots of prayers that that's true!!!!

After we saw the Neuro Surgeon mommy called my pediatric surgeon to see if he could see me... I needed him to take out some stitches in my incision that just won't seem to dissolve. Luckily we have his cell phone number and he took us back into his office right away so we didn't have to wait in the lobby with all the other patients hehe :) However, the experience was NOT pleasant. Taking stitches out really, really hurt and I wasn't too happy about it. BUT they are gone now and hopefully my incision can finally fully heal all the way now.

I slept most of the rest of the day after such a big morning. Daddy and I had some boy time tonight while mommy taught her class. I missed daddy all day long so I made sure he didn't put me down all night. He couldn't get much of anything done, but I know he appreciated holding me and snuggling all night! :) Some of my NICU friends are coming to visit me tomorrow so I'm super excited!

Time for interviews

Well mommy has to go back to work soon :( So I have to start interviewing the Help!! I'm a pretty easy baby as babies go, but I'm very picky about who is qualified to watch me and will get the privilege of playing with me all day, so I conducted my first interview this morning. Mommy is working with a company that has nurses with lots of experience with babies, so today I met a nice lady named Joey. She turned out to be pretty good with lots of experience with babies, kids, and adults. She also knows how much stimulation I'm going to need all day long and all the hard work and playtime I need to do everyday in order to stay strong and smart and catch up to where I need to be! Mommy and daddy seemed to like her too so hopefully we will be seeing more of her very soon :) I have more interviews tomorrow and Wednesday and hopefully they will go as well as today went so I have a good group of people to take care of me!!

I went to see my new neurologist today at the Dan Marino Center. I'm not really sure we learned very much by going there, actually I think we left more confused on some things. I'm staying on my seizure medication for now and mommy and I have to come back on Monday to do an eight hour EEG. That's right, EIGHT HOURS. They want to video me in case I do something funny (hopefully not). Neither of us are looking forward to that! The doctor also said I have a Grade 4 bleed on my left side (we knew that) and apparently I have a Grade 3 on the right side according to my records (that's news to me). Mommy and daddy are pretty upset with the NICU doctors because they always told us my right side was just "slight" and nothing to think about. Clearly NOT the case at all!! Unfortunately, the medical records department messed up the rest of my report and only had my records through May, which say my bleed is NOT resolved yet? Say what? So now we are all very confused as to what is going on with my head, sigh. I did get my head ultrasound done last week and have a follow up appointment with the neuro surgeon on Wednesday so hopefully we can get some real answers then! Mommy and daddy say it doesn't really matter what the reports say because I'm already smart and strong and they love me a ridiculous amount so it's all the same. They just want to make sure I'm not in danger of anything getting worse... Will keep you all posted!

On a final happy note, I got some fun new toys in the mail today from some of my friends including a super cool play mat. Mommy set it up in the living room and loaded it up with toys and I played all night (I especially love the mirror - I am one handsome lil man). The challenge is keeping my puppy dog off the mat and away from my toys! I'm also suddenly a fan of my binkie again, particularly the one my friend Karen gave me that's attached to a stuffed monkey... He helps me keep the binkie in my mouth and snuggles with me at the same time! :)

A few firsts

Today was a very nice start to my weekend.... Daddy and I got up super early and had some quality guy time before mommy woke up. Then daddy did some yard work while I tried to take a nap (it's a little too hot for me to help him just yet). After lunch we went on a field trip to the baby store to get me a baby pool!! Mommy had her eyes on one with an umbrella to keep me out of the sun and it didn't take much convincing to get daddy on board. Actually mommy had to rein daddy in while we were there because he had his eyes on a radio flyer and tricycle and convertible car and a few other fun items all for me :) Once we got the pool home daddy put it together right away and I had my first taste of cold water on my toes. I gotta admit, at first I wasn't feeling it! Like screamed and cried wasn't feeling it. But mommy put her feet in with me and we tried again nice and slow and after a few minutes it wasn't so bad... I even managed to sit all the way down in the water :) I think me and the pool have some good times ahead of us very soon... Especially considering I live in sunny south Florida where it's hot ten months out of the year! Or so they tell me :)

In addition to my first experience with my feet in the pool, daddy added another first to my list.... With a little help from me! Mommy was vacuuming the kitchen so daddy was on diaper duty with me, and boy did he ever get the raw end of the deal this time. When he went to change me I had had quite the blowout, and unbeknownst to him it had made its way all the way up my back and onto my clothes. As such, when daddy went to take my shirt off he managed to smear the yellow mess all the way up the rest of my back, AND through the entire back of my head.

Needless to say this was now a two person job and daddy proceeded to carry me out at arms length to retrieve mommy..... Who couldn't stop laughing hysterically (clearly she's never had poop in her hair or she wouldn't think it was so funny). Her and daddy finally managed to get me under some warm water to rinse me off before I got what I was really going after the whole time, a hot and steamy bath (shhhh don't tell). Mommy took over at that point and sent daddy to finish the floors. He came back just in time to give me my lotion massage and put on my PJs. Poor daddy, it wasn't his fault hehehe. He's always good for a laugh though!!

On one final note, my shots from yesterday have FINALLY caught up to me. After dinner and my bath I couldn't get comfy or fall asleep and proceeded to complain and cry for a good two hours :( The swing, however, finally came to my rescue and I'm snoozing comfortably for the first time all day Hopefully by tomorrow these shots will be resolved and I can get back to my happy self!!

A+ Today

Today I got an A+ from my pediatrician :) I have gained a total of 2 lb, 6 oz and 2" since I left the NICU. My growth chart was basically straight up and down.... that's awesome considering I'm usually a flatliner! The doctor said my cheeks are getting chunky, hehe... then I had to get three big bad shots :( They hurt and I screamed pretty loud, but the guy did them pretty quick and better to get them over and done with I guess. After that I slept for most of the afternoon and so far I've just been grumpy on and off and I have a little fever but, hopefully they'll both get better soon! Mommy was finally able to upload a video of me playing and talking :) Hope everyone has a great start to the weekend
